Projects

FARR has developed and introduced new rehabilitation and recreation courses and projects for clients of all ages. FARR also carries out several rehabilitation and recreation projects every year in co-operation with other organizations.

Aapo: Weight Control Project for Children of Elementary School Age
The goal of the project was to carry out a positive change in the health behaviour of the whole family. The project worked in groups of children under 14 years and their families. The program consisted of meetings, home visits and camps. The results of the project were excellent. The project report was published in 2006.

Dippii!:  The Recognition and Control of Adulthood Diabetes Risk
The project tests the importance of local information in influencing the health behaviour of population exposed to diabetes risk. The project also estimates the health program’s impact on the working age participants: the importance of each section of the project in goal gaining and input-output analysis on individual and community level. The project report will be published in 2007.

Eetu: Single Parent Support Project
The project aimed at supporting the single parent families to get on in their everyday life. The purpose of the project was to prevent social deprivation and to support single parents in their parenting. Each family was guided in making their own plan for the future. The families were supposed to support each other during and after the project. The project report was published in December 2005.

Elli: Disillusioned Elderly Support Project
Disillusioned elderly people were instructed and encouraged to take part in activities that support mental and physical agility. The program consisted of meetings, home visits and a recreational period in a spa hotel. The project co-operated with ten municipalities per year in different parts of Finland. The project report was published in December 2005.

Elmeri: Life-Control and Weight Control Project for Teenaged Children 
The goal of the project is to improve the self-knowledge, self-treatment and life-control of the teenaged participants and to motivate them to prevent diseases caused by excess weight. The project involves also the families of the teenaged children. The results of the exercise-focused program will be compared to the results of the nutrition-focused program. Project will suggest an operation model for municipalities and health care system in treatment of overweight teenagers and disease prevention.  The project started in 2007. UKK Institute will do the project evaluation.

Omaishoitajat: Rehabilitation project for family care givers and patients being cared for
The project promotes the wellbeing and managing of the family care givers. It simultaneously aims at improving the patients’ activity, spirit and quality of life. Project includes both institutional rehabilitation and outpatient care. 

Sointu: Support Project for Families Struggling with Adolescent Eating Disorder 
Sointu is a family support project that provides information and other facilities to cope with adolescent eating disorder. Main activities of the project are recreational and educational weekend meetings and peer group support. Strengthening of family interaction is one of the main goals of the project.

The projects receive funding assistance of RAY (Finland’s Slot Machine Association).
